MARKET REPORT – DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET
Consignments
from December 3, 2007, from 289 sellers were
1730 head including: 26 Bulls, 264 Cows, 40 Calves, 16 Longhorns,
363 Stocker Heifers, 488 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 180 Feeder Heifers, 353 Feeder
Bulls/Steers. Average
prices = $ 530. Last week =
$ 499. A year ago = $
497. Quality uneven with the weaned and
better calves in good demand and significantly higher. Plain cattle and Xbreds continue to be a
hard sell. The 1st Monday
segment of the sale focusing on 45 + days weaned calves was well received
especially on 2 – 5 weights. Packer
cows steady to $1.50 lower. Bred cows
and pairs steady. Discount on 6 weight
bulls vs. steers = $10.05/cwt. A good
knife costs about $40, a vet charges $5 - $7 – better pay back than most
investments. Our last sale of 2007
will be December 17! The first sale of 2008 will be January 7; we will start
receiving cattle on January 5! Merry
