MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET
Consignments
from October 1, 2007, from 188 sellers were 1240
head including: 24 Bulls, 162 Cows, 37 Calves, 301 Stocker Heifers,
391 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 95 Feeder Heifers, 230 Feeder Bulls/Steers. Average prices = $ 519. Last week = $ 541. A year ago = $ 497. Seasonal price adjustment in full swing with
only #1 kind of cattle staying steady to $2 higher. Many Oklahoma buyers on sidelines planting grain while concern is
growing in Texas over dry weather and army worms in addition to hot days, cool
nights. Additional buyers came in from
South and West Texas and this helped fill the void of Oklahoma buyers. Plainer cattle; fat, unweaned calves; and
500# + bulls are being discounted. Only
a handful of replacement quality bred cows and pairs. Packers $4 - $5 lower, possibly reacting to USDA’s announcement
of opening the Canadian border to older cattle. Consignments being accepted for “Fall Roundup” Replacement
Sale scheduled for Monday, October 22, 2007, followed by our regular sale.
