MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET
Consignments from September 10, 2007, from 188 Sellers were 1276
head including: 37 Bulls, 238 Cows, 56 Calves, 276 Stocker Heifers, 403 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 81 Feeder
Heifers, 185 Feeder Bulls/Steers.
Average price = $ 587. Last
week = $ 528. A year ago
= $ 524. A big crowd was on hand for
the advertised herd dispersal that included 80 mostly midage cows with the
3-in-1 deals selling at $1500 - $1575 and longbred cows at $1080 - $1225. For the day only 59 of the 238 cows went to
the packers, reflecting the need for local herd buildup. Buyers expressing concern over so many milk
fat 4 – 5 weight calves as we approach seasonal weather fluctuations of cool
nights and warm days—these calves are sickness waiting to happen and will
experience some discounting. Aggressive
bidding on 2 – 3 weight calves as well as conditioned 4 – 6 weights. 7 – 8 weights $4 - $5 higher. Packer prices steady to $3.50 higher. Consignments being accepted for our “Fall
Roundup” Special Female Replacement Sale, scheduled for Saturday, October 20,
2007.
