MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET
Consignments from July 16, 2007, from 162 Sellers were 998 head
including: 25 Bulls, 199 Cows, 48 Calves,
171 Stocker Heifers, 339 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 78 Feeder Heifers, 138 Feeder
Bulls/Steers. Average price = $
566. Last
week = $ 596. A year ago
= $ 510. Basic market fundamentals
about same as last week except the backlog of demand from July 4 week shut
downs have moderated some. Big drop off
in overall quality from last week dragged the averages down. Comparable calves steady to $1 - $2/cwt
cheaper. Packer cows $1 - $3 lower with
bulls $3 lower—reflecting inventory balancing.
With the hot weather in place we will see some discounting on juicy,
unweaned calves over the next couple of months.
