MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET
Consignments
from July 9, 2007, from 186 sellers were 1007
head including: 28 Bulls, 178 Cows, 56 Calves,
212 Stocker Heifers, 280 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 76 Feeder Heifers, 177 Feeder
Bulls/Steers. Average prices = $
596. Last week = $ 553. A year ago = $ 531. A year ago we ran 2984 head the week after
July 4 shutdown, no grass, no water.
This year plenty of grass and too muddy for many shippers to get to
pens. The market was significantly
higher across the board on better cattle.
88% of stocker steers were 4 and 5 weights with average prices
$11.80/cwt higher. 82% of stocker
heifers were 4 and 5 weights with average prices $8.60/cwt higher. Dispersal of 1st calf Angus pairs
with 300# calves sold at $1490 - $1725 per pair. Good pairs and bred cows are hard to come by. Packer prices $6.85 - $9.72 higher on
average. Most auctions were shut down
last week so we had a backlog of demand.
