MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET

Consignments from June 25, 2007, from 219 sellers were 1249 head including: 24 Bulls, 176 Cows, 48 Calves,
309 Stocker Heifers, 293 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 147 Feeder Heifers, 252 Feeder Bulls/Steers.  Average prices = $ 553.  Last week =  $ 620.  A year ago = $ 542.  The market on 2 – 5 weight calves to go to grass grazing was significantly higher.  Some downward pressure on feeder cattle as the prices bid for the fat cattle backed down a couple of dollars.  Good demand for replacement quality heifers indicates cowherd build up is underway - not many young replacement cows coming to town.  Packer prices higher with the need to build up the inventory in anticipation for short supplies next week as many sales will be closed for July 4 holiday.  In observation of Independence Day, we will be closed June 28 through July 6, 2007!
