MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET
Consignments
from June 11, 2007, from 202 sellers were 1292
head including: 31 Bulls, 233 Cows, 83 Calves,
331 Stocker Heifers, 352 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 91 Feeder Heifers, 171 Feeder
Bulls/Steers. Average prices = $
523. Last week = $ 554. A year ago = $ 509. The market started backing off last
Wednesday in anticipation for futures corn prices increased. The hot, humid weather is taking its toll on
the cattle with health problems a big concern.
Sucking calves and bull calves taking deep discounts because of the
extra stress from the heat index.
Discount on 6 weight bulls vs. steers = $5/cwt on average – two weeks
ago they were at parity. The quality
was all over the board. Comparable
calves $3 - $4 lower from last week.
Dispersal of midage pairs well received with prices $1260 - $1400. Most young bred cows short bred. Good interest in replacement quality
cows. Packers $2 - $4 lower on average
with the typical up tick in anticipation of 4th of July holidays not
evident.
