MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET

Consignments from May 28, 2007, from 58 Sellers were 434 head including: 21 Bulls, 66 Cows, 14 Calves,
101 Stocker Heifers, 134 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 34 Feeder Heifers, 54 Feeder Bulls/Steers.  Average price = $ 533.  Last week = $ 582.  A year ago = $ 501.  The market was steady with last week on comparable cattle.  Muddy fields and high creeks kept the cattle numbers down but brought out a lot of folks who do not have opportunity to attend many sales.  Several buyers for 1 – 3 head of bred cows or pairs.  The market report shows lower prices on calves.  This is a reflection of lesser quality and higher ration of horned roping steers cycling back through, i.e. 44% of 6 weight steers and 39% of 5 weight steers were horned cattle.  Strong market for good long bred cows and pairs. Packers steady.  Early consignments for next week include:  5 young Angus bulls, 3 carrying New Design and 2 sired by Son of Sure-Shot.  Well balanced EPD’s.
