MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET
Consignments from April 30, 2007, from 154 Sellers were 949 head
including: 40 Bulls, 231 Cows, 40 Calves, 172 Stocker Heifers, 269 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 86
Feeder Heifers, 111 Feeder Bulls/Steers.
Average price = $ 571. Last
week = $ 579. A year ago
= $ 538. Last Fridays cattle on feed
report failed to knock the market down as anticipated with feeder cattle $3 -
$5 higher on average. Good 2 4 weight
calves had strong demand with the good 250# calves dollaring out over $525 in
deals of 2 5 head. Demand for dried
out 4 5 weight calves exceeded supply forcing buyers to buy fleshy suckling
calves but at a discount to compensate for getting them through the weaning process. Most bred cows and pairs are not coming to
the market by choice and the good ones are hard to come by. Packer prices $1.50 $2.00 lower on
average.
