MARKET REPORT – DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET

Consignments from March 31, 2008, from 192 sellers were 1062 head including: 20 Bulls, 192 Cows, 51 Calves, 43 Longhorns, 293 Stocker Heifers, 289 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 76 Feeder Heifers, 98 Feeder Bulls/Steers.  $88/cwt bid on fed cattle Friday, corn futures opened higher today and future on feeder cattle down the limit does not bode well for reversing the downward trend that started last Wednesday.  The extreme price swings on Wall Street and the Chicago commodity exchanges drove some buyers to the sidelines.  The #1 and #1 ½ calves down $2 - $3, others $5 - $6 lower. Unusually high ratio of dairy X calves reflected in average prices being significantly lower than last week.  Consignments being accepted for our 16th annual “Bringing in the Green” Special Female Replacement sale scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2008.  To consign your cattle, please call us at 940-627-5599.
