MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET

Consignments from March 5, 2007, from 207 sellers were 901 head including: 37 Bulls, 187 Cows, 31 Calves, 204 Stocker Heifers, 227 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 112 Feeder Heifers, 103 Feeder Bulls/Steers.  Average prices = $ 550.  Last week =  $ 505.  A year ago = $ 558.  The Midwest feed yards have dried out to point where they are receiving cattle again so we saw significant gains on feeder cattle with 7 – 8 weight steers $8 - $9 higher on average and heifers $5 - $6 higher.  5 weight cattle $5 - $6 higher on average.  Lean packer cows $5 higher; fleshy cows $1 lower.  Not enough young bred cows and pairs to test the market as the cow numbers continue to be far behind historical trends—seems as if the sale off of the last two years is coming home to roost.  Consignments are being accepted for our 15th annual “Bringing in the Green” Special Replacement Sale scheduled for Saturday, March 17, 2007.
