MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET

Consignments from February 5, 2007, from 137 sellers were 767 head including: 26 Bulls, 180 Cows, 27 Calves, 189 Stocker Heifers, 193 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 46 Feeder Heifers, 106 Feeder Bulls/Steers.  Average prices = $ 501.  Last week =  $ 518.  A year ago = $ 591.  The market on better calves was $2 - $3 higher.  Quality was inconsistent and plainer calves discounted to point where they dragged averages down in segments where the ratio of plain cattle was greater.  Muddy conditions prevented several consignors from bringing cattle in.  Supply of better cattle less than demand.  Packer prices steady.  Not enough good bred cows or pairs to test market.  Consignments are being accepted for our 15th annual “Bringing in the Green” Special Replacement Sale scheduled for Saturday, March 17, 2007.
