MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET
Consignments from January 28, 2008, from 135 Sellers were 733 head
including: 24 Bulls, 149 Cows, 23 Calves, 32 Longhorns, 188 Stocker Heifers, 178 Stocker
Bulls/Steers, 61 Feeder Heifers, 78 Feeder Bulls/Steers. Average
price = $ 509. Last
week = $ 497. A year ago
= $ 518. Perhaps the cut in prime
interest rate and some settling of activity on Wall Street has created a more
favorable market climate in the livestock market as demand and prices
experienced significant gains. Several
order buyers were out of the money while others were given higher limits –
demand for good claves exceeded supply.
Packer prices were $6 - $7 higher on average. Bred cows and pairs steady.
