MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET
Consignments from January 22, 2007, from 105 Sellers were 505 head
including: 18 Bulls, 118 Cows, 11 Calves, 109 Stocker Heifers, 158 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 42
Feeder Heifers, 49 Feeder Bulls/Steers.
Average price = $ 490. Last
sale = $ 505. A year ago
= $ 579. Packer prices on high yielding
cows jumped up $6.19/cwt on average in response to tight supply as result of no
cattle moving over the past couple of weeks.
However, the calf market would not overcome the projected increase on
corn prices and lower future quotes on fed cattle. This combination plus the yet to be determined red ink from
weather related death loss in current feed lot inventory has caused a
significant pull back on prices. Demand on the better-bred cows continues to be
encouraging. Packer bulls $2.50 - $3.00
higher. Consignments being taken for
