MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET
Consignments from January 14, 2008, from 215 Sellers were 1228 head
including: 28 Bulls, 229 Cows, 27 Calves, 14 Longhorns, 360 Stocker Heifers, 334 Stocker
Bulls/Steers, 99 Feeder Heifers, 137 Feeder Bulls/Steers. Average
price = $ 475. Last
week = $ 492. A year ago
= $ 492. The market continued adjusting
to the projected high cost of gain in the feedlots by bringing stockers prices
to a point where there may be a positive margin on finished cattle. The order buyers are on very tight leashes
relative to money and quality. 4 weight
calves took the smallest hit being $2.85/cwt lower. Other weights were around $5/cwt lower on average. Packer prices $1 - $2 lower. Bred cows and pairs $30 - $45 higher.
