MARKET REPORT - DECATUR LIVESTOCK MARKET
Consignments from January 8, 2007, from 274 Sellers were 1496 head
including: 33 Bulls, 218 Cows, 19 Calves, 379 Stocker Heifers, 583 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 126
Feeder Heifers, 138 Feeder Bulls/Steers.
Average price = $ 505. Last
sale = $ 480. A year ago
= $ 555. Consignments a year ago were
2900 head with close to 40% being cows.
The 1496 head today is more typical but the 14% ratio of cows is less
than the normal 20% indicating producers are trying to hold on or increase the
cow herd. Most of the cows today were older so they went to the packers. Wheat grazing continues to be good and a
backlog of demand built up over the year-end shutdown of auctions. Average prices on calves and yearlings were
higher with 4 and 5 weights advancing 9 – 17%.
Packer prices $1 higher. Bred
cows and pairs steady on limited offering.
