from January 7, 2008, from 284 sellers were 1503
head including: 27 Bulls, 225 Cows, 42 Calves, 383 Stocker Heifers,
445 Stocker Bulls/Steers, 116 Feeder Heifers, 265 Feeder Bulls/Steers. Average

505. The livestock market joined Wall
Street in reducing value of our assets, with the high cost of grain forcing
lower prices for calves entering the food chain. Using the ratio of every $.25 increase per bushel of corn
reducing the value of a 5 weight steer by $5/cwt and corn selling over
$5/bushel from less than $4 a year ago – while the fed prices have pretty well
stayed the same or less – do the math!
The #1 kind of calves was $2 - $3/cwt lower while lesser quality were $4
- $7 lower. Packer cattle $.50 - $2.50
lower. Stocker cows $30 - $40 lower.
